"Harbor Lights Characters frustrated me"

I just finished the Chesapeake Shores series - couldn't put down the first two books - but am I the only one frustrated by the characters in Harbor Lights? What does Laurie do to deserve her role as Shanna's best friend? It's one thing to remind her to guard her heart - quite another to put her down at every turn. The O'Brien's can meddle all they want with each other, but the rudeness shown to Georgia's parents (guests in their home) is inexcusable and never resolved. Kevin has major psychological issues to resolve (probably including his own combat trauma/PTSD which is not even acknowledged). The perfect character to help him throught it is Will -- someone he trusts & is trained as a psychologist -- but that is never explored. Even at the end of the book his proposal leaves a lot to be desired. Does every character have to leave in the middle of a meal when they're upset? Gram doesn't have much interaction with the rest of her children/grandchildren. She sees Thomas a couple of times. Susie is never included in a family event. I AM hoping for more stories in this series. I'd really like Mick & Megan to make their big announcement (promised after Abby's wedding & Kevin's decision) and hear "the rest of the story" with the other characters. Maybe some of these issues can be resolved. cdamigo

Yes, I was frustrated also with HL. Don't get me wrong, I liked the book but the constant interfering among the family really got on my nerves. I would have told them all to take a hike, but that is just me

I have never read a Sherryl Woods book, but picked up the Chesapeake Shores trilogy while traveling. I thououghly enjoyed The Inn at Eagle Point. I just finished reading Flowers on Main and it aggravated me that Jake was so doubtful of their relationship even towards the end to the point where he had to confront Marty. Very insecure. I also think that Bree should have told him, "Listen, I am not going to have you question me all the time. This is over. If you are going to dobt me at every turn, then i can not deal with your insecurities. When you feel you can come to me and believe me, please do so. I love you - blah, blah, blah...." Or something like that! Anyhow, i did enjoy the book. I do love series that deal with the same characters, Mitford, etc. Will be starting HarborLights at the beach this weekend.

I too was frustrated by "Harbor Lights" in the Chesapeake series. Not so much with characters, although I agree with cdamigo in her post. But this book is supposed to take place three years after "Flowers on Main Street" and the fact that Abby and Trace aren't married yet and that Mick and Megan haven't moved any further along in their relationship so frustrated me that I ended up just reading the ending to find a very lackluster finish to what started out as a very good series. "The Inn at Eagle Point" gets added to my library but I wouldn't recommend reading the other two

I just finished the Chesapeake series and really enjoyed all of them! I assumed Abby and Trace would have already been married as were Bree and Jake but I thought it was nice to read about one of the weddings. I was surprised there had been so much time in between Flowers & Harbor Lights, but got past it. I wanted a little more about Kevin and Georgia's relationship revealed. I was glad to get Laurie over with and married because she was to negative for Shanna's complicated life. Thank you Sherryl for such wonderful books! Can't wait for more Sweet Magnolias & Chesapeake!
