Dear friends, This is the place for you to share your thoughts about my books as well as your tips on writing. Please don't use this as a forum to discuss works by other authors, pro or con. There are plenty of places you can go for general book discussions. I'd like this to be a friendly place where you can get to know others who enjoy my books. Stir up a little controversy if something in a book bugged you, as long as it's done in a reasonably gentle way. Feel free to ask questions of me and each other. I'll sign on as frequently as possible to answer your questions. Okay, then...jump in anytime. Sherryl

"MMR Vaccine"

Does the author intend to revisit her brief comments about the MMR vaccinations not received by her character Abby"s twin daughters at a later time? The character's reasoning for not vaccinating her children against these three highly contagious diseases has been proven invalid but including this untrue information in her novel may continue to bolster parents who withhold vaccination from their children and put the public's health at risk. The possible consequences were minimized to fevers and rashes. My reason for asking is that I have a sibling who would have given anything for the chance to receive a vaccination against paralytic poliomyelitis. She was born before the vaccine was available. Yet, in the interest of public health, she was required to be vaccinated against a virus she had already had, not once, but twice. Medical literature does not show any instances of anyone catching the polio virus twice, but the public health required that all children be vaccinated - no exceptions.

No, I won't be going back to the topic of the vaccine. This is still a very controversial area and I agree that there's mounting scientific evidence that the vaccine does not contribute to autism, but some parents continue to hold out against the vaccinations. I'm sure all parents weigh the pros and cons very carefully and make their decisions based on what they feel is best for their child. Even mentioning the topic -- and including it among the discussion questions for the book on several websites and in publications -- was meant to encourage people to think more about their decisions.
